Another gorgeous day in the sunshine, the Free Friends of Stover beckoned...

A morning walk around the lake yielded a distinct lack of Large Red Damselfies Pyrrrhosoma nymphula, I had my hopes raised after yesterday's report of no less than 10 individuals. But we were not treated to any such spectacle.

After coffee and bread pudding we headed down to the charcoal burner. We emptied the previous burn and bagged it up, then reloaded it with wood and set it alight. After lunch the lid was put on and it sat smoking contently.

We spent the remainder of the day cutting ponds in the marsh - still no sign of these elusive damselflies!
