Island In The Sun

It was a lovely day to be out and about today - gorgeous sunshine, gentle breeze - no chill in the air, a real summers day.

We began the day by making a few bonfires to burn last week's raked Molinia. While collecting some brash to burn from up by the pylons, I spotted this lizard escaping the wrath of our rakes.

Then with a few bits of newspaper we burnt the grass on the ground to make way for some fresh growth - using shovels we tried to rescue as much heather as we could from the flames.

The sun got a bit much for us after lunch, so we took the opportunity to relax in the heat!

For the remainder of the afternoon we created some islands for the Grebes. The lack of water lilys means the Grebes need something to use as a base for their nest. We cut sections off the edge of the marsh and dragged them out into the lake, and anchored them with a large stake. Was lovely to be out there in the sunshine!
